Let's Share the Air

lets share the air

We are proud to announce our commitment to a smoke-free GW. The Smoke-Free Policy is part of an ongoing effort to create a healthy environment for all individuals who live, learn, visit and work on our campuses. GW joins more than 1,000 colleges and universities nationwide that have made the decision to eliminate smoking on their campuses.

The goal of the new policy is to provide a clean and healthy environment for all members of our community on our Foggy Bottom, Mount Vernon and Virginia Science and Technology campuses. In addition to indoor space, the policy also includes university-owned outdoor spaces as well as certain public spaces adjacent to GW buildings. We ask the GW community to help support this change by not smoking in front of GW buildings or in GW outdoor areas.

The university understands that it is hard to quit smoking and wants to support those trying to quit by offering the American Cancer Society’s Quit For Life Program. It is available to all students, faculty and staff, as well as spouses, and their adult dependents age 18 and older. The university will cover the cost of the program and nicotine replacement therapy, including the patch or gum. For more information or to enroll, call 1-866-QUIT-4-LIFE (866-784-8454) today or visit the smoking cessation page.
